Good morning GUSC Family

Firstly, we would like to wish everyone a Happy New Year as we look forward to getting back to training very soon.

As we prepare for pre-season, we as a club wanted to give our members an update on what has been happening with our club over the last few weeks and what we will be looking forward to in Season 2024.

Over the last few weeks, we had the honour and privilege to host the Timor Cup. This was a historic moment for our club, as the tournament was hosted for the first time in 10 years. With the support of Hume City Council, sponsors, and a fantastic group of volunteers, we are proud to say that the tournament was a success. The club got a great deal of exposure through social media, which is always fantastic.

The Womens side of the tournament had plenty of Greenvale players from our Senior Womens and U18 girls teams. Unfortunately, they lost the best of 3 series 2-1.

The mens side of the tournament had teams from the UK, East Timor, Sydney, Darwin and the South-East side of Melbourne. In the end, the final was played between the Northern Crocs (Greenvale) and Casuarina FC (Darwin), hosted at Hume City’s ABD Stadium. The Greenvale boys came out on top, winning 3-1.

We would now like to move onto what we can look forward to in 2024.

Due to our growing numbers, especially since Covid, Hume City Council has now allocated to us a 2nd venue. This was a necessity due to not only our growing numbers but also to preserve Barrymore Rd as long as possible.

In 2025 (fingers crossed) Bradford Avenue will be our 2nd venue, until then however we have been given Seth Raistrick Reserve in Campbellfield for 2024. This is a fantastic ground with new change rooms and canteen facilities. Unlike other clubs which have 2 venues, our 2nd venue will have an operational canteen for game days and training nights. This will allow us to alter training night times as we understand the difficulties the younger age group parents have been experiencing with the 5:30 start times.

Training schedules will be posted out next week so coaches can start preparing for pre-season training. Please be aware that we will have a pre-season training schedule and then a season training schedule for when we have permission to return back to Barrymore Rd in March/April. In the meantime, some teams will be allocated to start preseason training at Greenvale Gardens also.

In terms of Registration fees, fees are now due so please check your emails, as the payment link will be sent out later this evening. For those who wish to pay via Afterpay, this will have to be done in-person at the club.

We have been informed that the 2024 Season will begin after Easter but the exact date will be released once Football Victoria release their 2024 calendar. The Football Victoria PlayFootball portal will be opening soon so every player, coach and volunteer will register. This information will be passed on in due course. Please be aware that PlayFootball registrations need to be completed every year.

This year we will be having 31 teams compete in various competitions from Seniors to miniroos. This number includes 4 female teams, which is a great accomplishment for the club, as we continue to drive womens football in the north.

We are also in the process of organising specific goalkeeper training for our developing goalkeepers, which will be an additional training session for them.

We will also be continuing to grow the development of our coaches with more courses, training session plans and mentoring from our experienced coaches at the club.

The club is also in talks with Melbourne Victory for more game day experiences as we have done in the past years.

We look forward to having everyone back to training very soon as the Senior Men’s teams begin their pre-season this week and the rest of the club to follow suit based on when their season begins.

Thank you
GUSC Committee
